DMCA and Copyright Policy
How to report content you believe infringes your copyright, how we respond under United States and Canadian law, and how to file a counter-notice.
Northstar Pulse respects the intellectual property of others and expects our clients and users to do the same. This policy explains how to report content you believe infringes your copyright, how we respond under United States and Canadian law, and how a party can respond to a notice.
01Our commitment
We respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement that relate to content we host or control. For content directed at United States users, we follow the process in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. 512. For notices under Canadian law, we follow the notice-and-notice regime in the Copyright Act. We are not able to remove content we do not host or control; in that case we will tell you where we can and, where possible, point you to the right host.
02Filing a copyright notice
If you are a copyright owner or authorized to act for one, and you believe content we host infringes your copyright, send a written notice to our designated agent below that includes:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- identification of the copyrighted work you claim is infringed, or a representative list if there are several;
- identification of the material you claim is infringing and its location, with enough detail for us to find it, such as the exact URL;
- your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address;
- a statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
- a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Incomplete notices may delay our response. When we receive a valid notice about content we host, we may remove or disable access to it and take reasonable steps to notify the party who provided it.

04Canadian notice-and-notice
Under Canada's Copyright Act, when we receive a compliant notice of claimed infringement relating to content we host, we will forward it, where the regime applies, to the relevant user or account holder, and keep records as the law requires. This regime does not by itself require us to remove content, and forwarding a notice is not a determination that infringement occurred.
05Counter-notification
If your content was removed or disabled and you believe this was a mistake or misidentification, you may send our agent a counter-notification that includes:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- identification of the material and the location where it appeared before removal;
- a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification;
- your name, address, and telephone number; and
- a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of an appropriate court and will accept service of process from the party who filed the original notice, or that party's agent.
Where the DMCA applies, we may restore removed content within the time frame the statute provides unless the original complainant tells us they have filed a court action to keep it down.
06Repeat infringers
We may, in appropriate circumstances and at our discretion, limit, suspend, or terminate the accounts or access of users or clients who are the subject of repeated infringement notices.
07Misrepresentation
Under 17 U.S.C. 512(f), a person who knowingly and materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages. Send a notice or counter-notice only if you have a genuine, good faith basis, and consider seeking legal advice if you are unsure.
08Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above.
